  11. Straws will not be allowed.
  12. Boys cannot touch their boats during the race.  Only Adult Leaders will be allowed to “upright” boats during a race.

Tips

  • The lighter the boat the faster it will go; however, it can be less stable.
  • Blowing it typically not a matter of how hard, but how straight.
  • Consistent blowing is better than large puffs.
  • Ensure your sail is at least ½” off the deck and clip or round the bottom corners of the sail.  This keeps the sail from rubbing against the side of the gutter which can cause the boat to drag or get hung.
  • The flatter the hull the more stable the boat will be.  Stability is a key to winning the race.  If you prefer disappointment, round the sides of the hull.
  • Some have had success with in placing a groove in the bottom of the boat to help keep the boat going straight.
  • Position the keel ¾” to 1” behind the mast hole.
  • Position the rudder close to the rear edge of the keel.
